Competence area corporate governance, ILE-HSG

The University of St. Gallen (HSG) is one of the leading business university in German speaking countries with a worldwide reputation. The university focuses on the education and training of students as well as specialists and executives in business, public administration and the administration of justice.

The corporate governance competence area at the Institute for Law & Economics (ILE-HSG) conducts current national and international research in the field of corporate governance and transfers the latest scientific findings into science and practice. The research work is interdisciplinary and built on both quantitative and qualitative research methods.  

Based on the theoretical foundations, the teaching comprises the practical application of scientific findings for entrepreneurial action. In the Bachelor's and Master's levels, future specialists and managers are taught the necessary methodological knowledge as well as the relevant instruments for the successful implementation of a "Good Corporate Governance". The competence area headed by Prof. Dr. Michèle F. Sutter-Rüdisser not only offers an extensive and interesting range of lectures for students, but also further education opportunities for experienced personalities in the field of executive education. In addition, we strive to establish a practical transfer with public institutions and companies. Thus, the ILE-HSG provides advisory and reviews activities.

The research in the competence area of Prof. Dr. Michèle F. Sutter-Rüdisser is primarily focused on the following topics:

  • Corporate Governance
    The research of leadership, control and monitoring structures of organizations with regard to the design of the underlying business processes. This with reference to aspects of legitimacy, responsibility, sustainability, effectiveness and efficiency.

  • Board Governance
    The analysis of the tasks, duties and working methods of boards of directors in a national and international comparison. This takes into account existing and potential new regulatory requirements and regulations.

  • Organizational Control
    The interaction of internal and external corporate management and monitoring activities, including audit committee, management, internal and external audit, risk management and compliance function.
